A.D. Boynton II [or, Anthony Boynton, he/they] is a cultural worker, writer, teacher, and artist, an afrofuturist based in Lawrence, Kansas from the deep south of Columbus, GA. They are the curator of the 4:44 Syllabus and a chapbook of ekphrastic poetry entitled Witness, and are currently working on mixed-genre collections on grief and coming-of-age.

Boynton is a proud HBCU graduate, holding a B.A. in English from Fort Valley State University, a M.A. from Georgia College & State University, and recently earned a Ph.D. in English at the University of Kansas. Their academic work focuses on the social and political potential of literature, art, and media; their research strives to connect literary and cultural artifacts of the 20th and 21st century to critical political imaginaries and the experiential realities of Black, queer, impoverished people. Along with having his work published in Open Cultural Studies, College Language Association Journal, South Atlantic Journal, and several online public platforms, Boynton is the Managing Editor for the Journal of Science Fiction. Boynton is also co-editing a collection tentatively entitled Afrosouthernfuturism with colleagues Joanna Davis-McElligatt and Kristin Reynolds.

Boynton has been a teacher and workshop facilitator for a decade with several regional and national organizations and conferences including: the Freedom Summer Collegiate Program, Choate Rosemary Hall, the College Language Association, the African American Policy Forum, and the Sexual Assault Prevention and Education Center at the University of Kansas. They have taught classes on writing, American history, science fiction, African American literature and culture, and poetry. Working in the arts and public humanities, Boynton has consulted for public humanities initiatives and organizations. He also has a life on stage as an performer, singer, and musical director. They are currently a lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Kansas.
