A.D. Boynton II [or, Anthony Boynton, he/they] is a writer, teacher, and artist from Columbus, GA. They are the author of the 4:44 Syllabus, a chapbook of ekphrastic poetry entitled Witness, and are currently working on mixed-genre collections on grief and coming-of-age.

Boynton has a B.A. in English from Fort Valley State University, a M.A. from Georgia College & State University, and recently earned his Ph.D. in English at the University of Kansas. Their academic work is primarily in the areas of speculative fiction, teaching, and politics of representation in U.S. popular culture; their research strives to connect African American literary and cultural artifacts of the 20th and 21st century to critical political imaginaries and experiential realities. Along with having his work published in the College Language Association Journal, South Atlantic Journal, and several online public platforms, Boynton is the Managing Editor for the Journal of Science Fiction. Boynton is also co-editing a collection tentatively entitled Afrosouthernfuturism with colleagues Joanna Davis-McElligatt and Kristin Reynolds.

Boynton has been a teacher and workshop facilitator for several organizations and conferences including: the Freedom Summer Collegiate Program, Choate Rosemary Hall, the College Language Association, the African American Policy Forum, and the Sexual Assault Prevention and Education Center at the University of Kansas. They have taught classes on American literature, science fiction, African American literature and culture, and poetry. They are currently a lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Kansas.
